Choose a path through the word
Map a continuous entrance, a structural encounter in each character, and one clear exit. The path should explain why spacing, baseline, or terminals shift from left to right.
Let letters yield differently
One character may open, another may loop, and another may taper. Variation creates flow, while a shared direction and line weight keep the word from becoming visually turbulent.
Remove the line and test the rhythm
The letters should still imply direction after the accent is hidden. If the entire sense of movement disappears, the line is illustration rather than a typographic rule.
